Several years ago, we decided to start weeding the soil between our vines by hand.
In autumn, grasses are sown between the rows of vines, forming a natural protective cover.
This technique facilitates water retention in the ground by limiting evaporation and erosion. The plant cover also favours biological activity by increasing organic matter content, hence promoting a rich and less-fragile soil.
Last but not least, we plant grasses to foster the biodiversity vital to our wine estate.
Shouldered by a multitude of plant varieties, our vines now enjoy some welcome company when they awaken in springtime.
